Mixmaster Throwdown (MMTD) is Chicago’s longest-running DJ and event production brand. Founded in 1997 by Dan Morrell — formerly DJ Smurf on the B96 Street Mix from 2001 to 2011 — MMTD has spent twenty-eight years building a reputation as the city’s most reliable crew for nightlife, weddings, corporate events, brand activations, and festival programming. The trademark slogan, Rockstars Party Like Us.™, has held since the late 1990s.
The receipts are public. From 2001 to 2011, Dan Morrell’s mixes aired more than 1,100 times on B96 Chicago to a weekly audience of 1.3 million listeners. He took first place at the Super DJ Spin-Off in Las Vegas in 2001. He served as the Chicago Bears’ exclusive event DJ for over a decade and ran warm-up sets for the Chicago Bulls and the Luv-A-Bulls. He played B96 Summer Bash at Toyota Park (50,000 fans, 11 years running), Halloween Bash and Jingle Bash at Allstate Arena, and toured U.S. Armed Forces installations in Japan in 2009. Opening credits include Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Black Eyed Peas, LMFAO, Rihanna, Run DMC, and LL Cool J.
Today MMTD operates as a multi-DJ crew. Daniel Jaxon is the Cantina resident DJ at Terrace Cantina (Oakbrook Terrace, IL) every Tuesday with rotating guest sets, including special guest sets by founder Dan Morrell. Mixmaster Records artists fill out the broader roster. The crew is bookable for private events, corporate gigs, festival slots, brand activations, and full event production (sound, lighting, video, run-of-show).
